The Wild Eye Retreat is for creatives, leaders, visionaries and photographers — anyone in transition, anyone who has lost access to themselves, and anyone called to reconnect and create meaning beyond achievement and performance.
Guided by Herbert Brauer and Quirine Peeters, you will experience a rare combination of creative nature mentoring, transformative coaching, a unique photographic process and a journalling method designed to help you discover, reflect and renew your flow and meaning of life.
Supported by Tinolla Rodgers, this is an ideal space if you choose an extraordinary transformation for yourself and your life.
Between sessions, you rest deeply, enjoy silence, reflect and soak in the sights and sounds of the wild bush. Every practice can be woven into daily life when you return home.
It is not entertainment, regular education or conventional recreation.
It is a way of bringing your creative expression back into alignment with nature.
You may belong here if you have entered a transition and do not yet know what comes next; if your creativity has become habitual rather than alive; if you sense something wanting to emerge through you; or if you do not need another course but an experience that changes how you perceive.
Secure Your SeatDeveloped by Herbert Brauer, Photo-Life-Synthesis practises the entire photographic act in alignment with nature’s principles, drawing on the attributes of the five elements within the medicine wheel.
Let go of striving and stress, so the mind quietens and awareness opens. Your capacity to focus increases.
Let the body and nervous system recalibrate in undisturbed nature: water, trees, clean air and elephants.
Free from distraction, access creative potential through alignment first — with expression and image following naturally.
Receive authentic insight, ground what you have learned and arrive at new conclusions for life and work.
Woven through these movements is photographic craft: aperture, shutter speed, ISO, composition, visual design, storytelling, light and the relationship between content and abstraction.
One-to-one mentoring guarantees personal attention throughout.

Gather as the light softens for a quiet opening circle. Set down the journey here and step into the stillness of the days ahead.

Establish the ground through foundational craft, nature practices and visual-acuteness exercises, held alongside first-light photography and afternoon game drives.

Weave Photo-Life-Synthesis into the rhythms of the bush: game drives, a soulful Kwando cruise, gentle bush walks, long siestas and solitary practice with camera and journal.

Barefoot sundowners at Horseshoe Lagoon, a bush dinner on a private island, expressive art at The Sijwa Project and one-to-one mentoring on the images you are creating.

Gather once more in closing ceremony, carrying home the techniques, practices and renewed way of seeing you have found.
Sunrise: Wake early and leave camp at dawn, immersing yourself in Photo-Life-Synthesis as first light changes every quality of light.
Mid-morning: Coffee, snack, feedback, journalling and reflection until midday.
Midday: Lunch and rest — a true siesta in the stillness of the day.
Late afternoon: Spend the three hours before sunset behind the lens, as the landscape becomes luminous again.
Sunset: Reflection, sharing and communing at home base.

Herbert is an award-winning wildlife filmmaker and stills photographer with three decades of experience behind the lens and in the field.
He created Photo-Life-Synthesis to align photography with nature’s five elements and the medicine wheel — turning the photographic act into a practice of presence, perception and creative renewal.
At Wild Eye, Herbert guides the craft, the image-making and the subtler work of learning to see again.
